Bridon Tiger® BiG T8 Compacted is an 8-strand compacted wire rope engineered specifically for dragline excavator service, one of the most demanding applications in surface mining. Draglines operate under continuous heavy cyclic loading, so the ropes fitted to them need to combine high breaking strength with excellent resistance to abrasion, crushing, and fatigue.

Construction: The 8-strand compacted construction increases the rope’s metallic cross-section compared to a standard round-strand rope of the same diameter, improving both breaking strength and resistance to surface wear — a key advantage on draglines where the rope is in constant contact with sheaves, drums, and the bucket rigging under heavy load.

Typical applications: Dragline hoist, drag, and dump ropes on surface mining excavators, and other heavy-cyclic-duty mining applications where rope life under repeated high loading is the primary concern.

Why compacted construction matters for draglines: Dragline ropes are subject to some of the highest bending fatigue and abrasive wear demands of any wire rope application. Compacting the strands reduces the gaps between individual wires, increasing the rope’s resistance to crushing on the drum and improving fatigue life under the repeated bend cycles a dragline rope experiences every working shift.
