Bridon Tiger® BiG T6 Compacted is a 6-strand compacted wire rope engineered for dragline excavator service in surface mining, where ropes are subject to continuous heavy cyclic loading and severe abrasive wear. The 6-strand compacted construction is a proven design choice for dragline hoist, drag, and dump rope applications.

Construction: Compacting the 6 outer strands increases the rope’s metallic cross-sectional area for a given diameter compared to standard round-strand construction, improving both breaking strength and resistance to crushing and surface abrasion — both critical on draglines where the rope runs constantly over sheaves and drums under heavy load.

Typical applications: Dragline hoist, drag, and dump ropes, and other heavy-cyclic-duty surface mining excavator applications.

Why this construction matters: Dragline operation places some of the most severe bending fatigue and crushing demands on wire rope of any mining application. A compacted strand design reduces internal wire movement and gaps, improving resistance to crushing on the drum and extending fatigue life under the repeated loading cycles typical of dragline duty.
